The IFIS&IZ al-Ghazzali Academy and the sponsor KUDEM are pleased to announce that the students have started with the book Mulla Jāmī. The students of the ‘classical-Islamic madrasa studies from an academic perspective in the European Context’ are now in the last semester of the fourth academic year pursuing their studies with the same great passion and determination as on day one.

The book al-Fawāid al-Ẓiyāʾiyyah, known as Mullā Jāmī, was written by the prominent poet and Sufi ʿAbd al-Rahmān Jāmī (d. 898/1492). Jāmī called this book „al-Fawāid al-Ẓiyāʾiyyah“ since he wrote it for his son Ẓiyā al-Dīn Yūsuf. Mullā Jāmī is considered one of the best and most valuable commentaries (sharh) of al-Kāfiya, an essential book of classical Arabic grammar written by Ibn al-Ḥājib (d. 646/1249), who is known for his important works on grammar. Moreover, this book was taught in the Ottoman madrasas for centuries and has since then remained an important treatise of Arabic grammar. More than 45 additional specific commentaries (Ḥāshiya and Ta’līq) were written about this book.

ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Jāmī carefully analysed the earlier written interpretations and commentaries of al-Kāfiya and gained great benefit from them. Therefore, this book compares and discusses different opinions of scholars on various topics of Arabic grammar and then, with the necessary evidence, presents the more correct approaches to the reader understandably and systematically. Also, the book devotes much attention to the philosophy of the Arabic language. Jāmī finished the book a few months before his death in 1492, thereby bequeathing a remarkable work for Arabic studies. This sophisticated and detailed book has deserved the privilege of being the last and final book in the curriculum of the traditional madrasa education to be taught.

We pray to Allāh the All-Knowing, to help us grasp the subtleties within this book, and we ask Him to aid us to understand the Qur’ān and the Sunnah correctly. Āmīn!
