The IFIS&IZ al-Ghazzali Academy the third academic year continues with an essential book of classical Arabic grammar; Durrat al-Sadaf fī Bayān Asnāf al-Harf.

We are delighted and excited to announce that the IFIS&IZ al-Ghazzali Academy is in the third academic year with the study program of ‘Classical-Islamic Madrasa Studies from an Academic Perspective in the European Context’. The IFIS&IZ al-Ghazzali Academy is funded by KUDEM and continues with an essential book of classical Arabic grammar; Durrat al-Sadaf fī Bayān Asnāf al-Harf.

Sheikh Fakhr al-Dīn al- ‘Arnāsī (d. 1972) is an important scholar and Sufi of the Eastern madrasa tradition and the author of Durrat al-Sadaf fī Bayān Asnāf al-Harf a book on al-harf (the particle or the preposition). In Arabic grammar, the particle is the third main group next to al-ism (the noun) and al-fi’l (the verb) under the topic of al-kalima (the word).

A harf (particle) is a type of word that hasn’t got a meaning on its own; the meaning appears when the particle is used with another word. That is why this topic, is just as important in Arabic as the noun and the verb. For the correct understanding of the sentence is based on the knowledge of the particles that can have different meanings and functions when used in different contexts. Syntax (grammar) books, often possess scattered and complicated information concerning the particles, whereas, in Durrat al-Sadaf, the particles have been examined in 24 groups in a clear and orderly system. Quranic verses, sayings of the prophet Muhammad and Arabic poems are often included in the book, the versatile functions, and different meaning dimensions of the particles have been shown in a systematic and precise manner.

We pray to Allāh The Exalted, to help us grasp the subtleties of Arabic grammar within this book and we ask Him to aid us to understand the Qur’ān and the Sunnah correctly. Āmīn!
