The traditional iftar dinner hosted by IFIS&IZ and KUDEM took place with vast interested and enthusiasm by the guests. The founding director of IFIS&IZ honourable Prof. Dr Hüseyin İlker Çınar attended to the iftar dinner. Among the guests from different religious groups, academia, NGO’s and entrepreneurs, council members of the Mannheim municipal Prof. Dr Heidrun Kämper, Marianne Bade, Ms Nazan Kapan (both SPD), and Melis Sekmen (Grüne) have followed the invitation of KUDEM and IFIS&IZ.
The program started with a recitation of the Holy Qur’an followed by a welcoming speech ofDr Sinan Özdemir, who welcomed the guests in the name of KUDEM and IFIS&IZ. In his welcoming remarks, he gave an overview of the current activities and projects of KUDEM and the IFIS&IZ: the scientific library for Islamic studies has reached more than 70,000 books and will be further expanded, since October 2016 over 70 students study classic-Arabic in the IFIS&IZ al-Ghazzali Academy from an academic perspective with a European context is continuing. After the 6-year study program, the students of the IFIS&IZ al-Ghazzali Academy will be able to read, understand, and to interpret the holy texts of Islam. The most recent project of KUDEM is the foundation of a multi-lingual children’s library targetting 50,000 books, of which 30,000 books have been already procured and are available at the premises of KUDEM.
Prof. Dr Heidrun Kämper holds a welcoming speech in the name of the city of Mannheim, highlighting the outstanding value of KUDEM with its engagement in arts, culture, music, education and science. Prof. Kämper expressed her appreciation and the importance of KUDEM for the urban society in Mannheim. Accompanied by a live nay (reed flute) and an oud (short-neck lute) act, the guests enjoyed the meals in the special arranged conference room of KUDEM in a festive atmosphere.
